During a five year period in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Charette partner Jeff Yerkey had the dream design gig of producing an impressive series of posters for Michigan's most prominent jazz series, Showcase Jazz of Michigan State University.
Not phased by limited budgets, he produced posters for performances by such jazz giants as Charles Mingus, Dizzie Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Oregon, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Gato Barbieri, Roscoe Mitchell, Sun Ra and more. These posters frequently alternated between two visual styles — one featuring bold photographs of the performers, evocative of the Impulse and Verve labels, and a completely abstract style characterized by ethereal, moody original paintings and photographs.
Showcase Jazz consistently sold out its performances and Charette is fortunate to have many of these prints signed by the jazz artists.
